The Challenge

Seconds Matter on the Web

Hospital networks needed a desktop-grade clinical platform for ECG analysis — one where doctors could interpret multiple leads simultaneously, cross-reference past recordings, and act on AI suggestions without losing their train of thought. Existing tools buried key information in menus, lacked real algorithm suggestions, and made serial comparisons nearly impossible. The ECG Analysis Terminal needed to surface the right information at the right moment in a single, distraction-free workspace.

Design Process

Designing the Workspace

01
Research
Heuristic evaluation of 5 existing ECG platforms. 3-week diary study with cardiologists to understand real web workflows and context switching.
02
Information Architecture
Defined a 3-panel layout: queue, viewer, and analysis. Card sorting with doctors confirmed the mental model and panel hierarchy.
03
Design
Designed 40+ screens across 12 flows. Iterated on typography scale for legibility at clinical monitor distances (60–90 cm).
04
Validate
Deployed Hotjar recordings on beta. Identified heat patterns showing doctors weren't seeing the serial comparison CTA — repositioned and retested.
