The Challenge

Bridging Hardware & Software

Portable 12-lead ECG devices existed, but pairing them with a seamless digital experience was an unmet need. Clinicians struggled with complex setup flows, lost recordings, and no way to sync data to the cloud reliably. VCardia needed to feel as simple as a consumer app while meeting the reliability demands of clinical hardware. The SDK additionally had to expose a clean developer interface for third-party integrations.

From Device to Cloud

Discovery
Observed technicians using competitor devices in field settings. Identified 3 critical failure points: Bluetooth pairing, signal quality feedback, and upload confirmation.

Map
Mapped the full device-to-report journey across hardware states. Designed for error conditions: low battery, poor signal, network loss.

Design
Designed both the consumer mobile UI and the SDK documentation. Used Principle to prototype Bluetooth pairing micro-animations for testing.

Validate
Ran 3 rounds of device-in-hand usability testing with nurses and technicians. Measured setup time from unbox to first successful recording.
